Summary 2019

2019 has been a bit rocky for me but I was pleased that we did manage a bunch of good events, which I would like to highlight here (please be with me 😉 )

School class in Eberstadt

APRIL

A Pfungstadt school class teacher interested to demonstrate real Astronomy got in contact with me, thanks to Claudia Monteiro. We organised an outreach event for school class at our Eberstadt observation site and it was very much appreciated by the kids AND the teachers!

July

ESOC had organised the “Take me to the Moon” event on the 16th and as there was a lunar eclipse the same day, asked if the EUMETSAT Astronomy Club could provide support for the observation. While there had been some cloud layers, mostly it was possible to provide a great show to the audience – adding 2 passes of the International Space Station as well!

August

“Under the Milkyway tonight”

It had been thought about 2 years back, but then it became reality: we tripped to the East-Hesse Rhön Dark Park, in fact already in east Germany (Thüringen) to experience real dark sky in Germany.

The weather was great on the chosen 31st and the observation terrific!

Here some photos that provide you an impression on how what you have missed 😉

September

Articstic monument full of essential scientific formulas.

The world-famous European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) opens its doors every 5-6 years or so to the pubic, when maintenance is going on (big shut downs). Ivan, Bernard and me from the Club visited the site from 15th-16th, again having stunning weather. Have a look: https://photos.app.goo.gl/5rkVpyAaNa9SMTy98

November

The Gang at ESOC
2nd Phase - Mercutry has fully entered the sun's disk
9 May 2016

Another collaboration with ESOC was the >attempt< observation of the Mercury transit over the sun on. After so much luck with weather that year, it had to once bust…..but it was still fun and appreciated. People asked many good questions and we did our best to provide quality answers
