Profile: Holger

Hi, my name is Holger. I started with astronomy when buying my first telescope in 2005, a small lens telescope from a well known discounter franchise. Viewing was fun, but I wanted to show my “discoveries” also to others, so I started to take photos, at that time with my fathers old analogue camera.

It turned out to be not so easy, but over the years, I improved a lot. Later, new telescopes joined my little one, a vintage long refractor from the 60ies or 70ies, but since I was always more interested in deep-sky objects, a also Newtonian with very good light-gathering capabilities.

I learned a lot during the years, still do a lot of photographing, but also combined astronomy with my other hobby: Sketching and drawing. So I’m also jotting down my observations with pencil and paper from time to time. The experience of watching becomes more intense, and in addition I found, that this way of taking pictures is more affordable than using high-end, super light-sensitive cameras.
